Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task was a great way to help me to understand how to make a realistic, successful magazine and get used to the software such as InDesign and Photoshop.
If I had gone straight into the main task, I think I would have struggled as I wouldn't have been familiar with the software and production process. By analysing the college magazine I understood the conventions that I was able to take into the preliminary task. When I analysed the music magazines, I had more of an idea what to look for and comment on which helped me in my final production to make my final products more professional and convincing.

In the preliminary task we were guided through both of the main programmes we used; InDesign and Photoshop. Indesign was slightly difficult to grasp at first but after the initial start, it was more basic than I had originally thought. with Photoshop, I hadn't had much experience with it, other than doing some simple editing of photos for art. I found that Photoshop was quite straight-forward to use although there were some aspects that could be confusing at times.
Although I have used the same image for my front cover on both my preliminary and final task, I still had to think about the camera angle location, lighting and making sure that the image related to the genre and style of my magazine. The other images I took for my final project, I had to think more about as I had to make sure that they met the standards I had set when I took my front cover image.

By looking back on my preliminary task and evaluating it, it helped me see the faults in it and what went well. This helped me with my final production as I could make sure that the faults in my preliminary task were not taking place in my final product.
In conclusion, I have found that this project has been fun and something completely different to what I had been previously used to. I feel that I have gained experience with the different technologies, and I can now use them in other subjects and tasks to make my work as good as I can.
